backed with over 500 references showing how liberty works. Particular
emphasis is placed on the practicality and compassionate nature of a
libertarian society.
The Libertarian Reader, edited by Tibor R. Machan
This 1982 anthology offers representative examples
of the main philosophical approaches to the defense of a fully free --
i.e., libertarian -- society. If you're just curious about libertarianism,
this collection of in-depth scholarly
articles may be more dense and detailed than what you're looking for, but
it is an excellent resource
for college students, professors, and advanced readers.
Ain't
Nobody's Business If You Do by Peter McWilliams
A magnificent compilation of the absurdity and cruelty of
victimless crime laws throughout time. A real eye-opener!
The
Law by Frederic Bastiat
Quite simply, one of the most important and inspiring books ever written
about freedom. Written in 1850, It has truly withstood the test of time.
For A New Liberty: The Libertarian Manifesto by
Murray N. Rothbard.
Rothbard was one of the greatest libertarian
thinkers and writers of the 20th century -- indeed, of all time. In this
provocative, bold and inspiring book, first published in 1973, Rothbard
lays out his radical libertarian vision of a society in which all
worthwhile and legitimate functions now provided by the state are handled
by the private sector. Brilliantly written and argued -- agree or
disagree, Rothbard is guaranteed to make you think!
(Note: The Mises Institute
has numerous other books online in their entirety by Rothbard, Ludwig
von Mises, and other great champions of free markets and liberty. Though
not introductory material, they comprise a wonderful resource for the
serious student of the free society.)
